The 13th International Freiberg Circular Carbon Technologies Conference was held in Prague, Czechia, between September 15–19, 2025. The conference, where recent research in circular carbon technologies, biomass conversion, and sustainable energy systems was presented, also featured contributions from researchers of the Istanbul Technical University Synthetic Fuels and Chemicals Technology Center (ITU SENTEK).

On November 24, 2024, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Rector of Istanbul Technical University, visited our ITU Synthetic Fuels and Chemicals Technology Center, where research is conducted on the production and purification of hydrogen-rich synthesis gas using next-generation gasification and pyrolysis technologies from biomass, wastes, and sewage sludge.

Prof. Dr. Selim Şenkan delivered a seminar titled “Fuel Cells – Science, Technology and Economics” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 14:00, in classroom D204 of the Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University.

Dr. Hyungwoong Ahn, a faculty member at University of Edinburgh, delivered a seminar titled “Development of PSA-SPUR Technology and its CO₂ Capture Applications for Industrial Decarbonisation” on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 14:30, in classroom D204 of the Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University.

Youssef Belmabkhout (Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Morocco) delivered a seminar titled “Advanced Materials for Applications Related to Energy Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability” on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 15:30, in classroom D201 of the Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University.

The Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Strategy and Budget Directorate (SBB), which closely monitored the Center’s establishment process, approved the need for a new building by considering its organizational structure, activities, and project progress. Accordingly, the project was extended for one year with an additional budget of 31,931,000 TRY, and the construction of a 700 m² Technological Research Laboratory Building was approved. This decision was officially published in the 2026 Public Investment Program in the Official Gazette dated January 15, 2026.

With the support of TÜBİTAK-BİDEB 2221 visiting scientist support program, Dr. Hüseyin Enis Karahan started his studies at ITU SENTEK to develop a project on "Conversion of Microalgal Biomass to Carbon Dots by Environmentally Friendly Methods and Its Use in the Production of Graphene-Based Hydrogen Separation Membranes" and to form future collaborations. We welcome him and wish him success in his work.
